ANFS call for total transparent and Investigation claim against prof. Cyril Ndifon at University of Calabar
The Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS), a prominent advocate for gender equality and against sexual violence, has taken a stand and is demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to a formal complaint letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University, several female students have come forward with claims of encountering a hostile and inappropriate environment within the faculty. The letter, authored by Princess Omoniyi, the National President of ANFS, emphasizes the urgency of addressing the matter and seeks a prompt response from the University administration.
ANFS, which serves as an apex platform for Nigerian female students, promotes social welfare, inclusivity, economic empowerment, and capacity building. The organization has historically been at the forefront of the battle against Students Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SSGVB). The allegations against Prof. Cyril Ndifon have struck a chord with ANFS, prompting the organization to raise its voice against such behavior within the academic community.
The letter expresses disappointment at the alleged misconduct of someone who is expected to be a learned figure and a role model for students. ANFS is determined that the ongoing investigation, under direct monitoring, should not be overlooked or brushed aside. The organization has taken swift action by widely sharing news of the demonstrations against Prof. Cyril Ndifon across various social media platforms and has also communicated this matter to relevant security agencies.
In a bold move, ANFS has announced its intention to collaborate with a Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Against Sexual & Gender-Based Violence. Together, they plan to stage a peaceful protest in key government institutions including the Presidency, National Assembly, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigerian Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Additionally, ANFS has warned that it will go to any lengths to address allegations against academic and non-academic staff of the University of Calabar who have reportedly contributed to an unbearable and distressing environment for students. The letter underscores that the current challenges faced by students and their families must not be exacerbated by such behavior.
The allegations have triggered a wave of concern within the University community, drawing attention to the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students. As ANFS and its allies prepare to make their voices heard, the University administration faces mounting pressure to ensure a transparent and unbiased investigation into the claims against Prof. Cyril Ndifon.
